If you work in the Metro-Detroit area there is a bit of a teacher legend. In our parts we call her “THE Lisa Lizak.” She does AMAZING things with Thinking Maps, is always rocking an educationally inspired costume and does some pretty ingenious things with a guided reading group. So, when THE Lisa Lizak asks you to write a blog with her, you don’t say no.

Instead, you get really intimidated and shy.

But, Lisa encourages you and you write your first blog post. SO, if this seems different it’s because Beth Wright is behind the keyboard tonight!

As a routine blog stalker, I love when my Teacher Heroes share their lesson plans. I feel like I get to know how that person organizes a classroom and how she crams it all in one day.

As my first blog post I thought I’d give you a glimpse into my first/second grade split!

Here's 7 things about Lisa and Beth:


1. Lisa and Beth met last year while Beth was teaching 1st and Lisa was teaching 2nd and we've been BFF's ever since :)

2.  For our school "Teacher Talent Show" we formed a dance group called the JBE (Justin Bieber Experience) and we rocked "Justin Beaver" shirts for our performance of "Baby"...and we still hear about it! :)  Our amazing teacher buddy, Stef (pregnant and dancing to "Baby"...get it (hehe :), is also in the middle :)

3. Lisa loves wearing funny costumes!  Here we are on Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day!  (She's Fancy Nancy, of course. :)

4.  We're both obsessed with Thinking Maps!  We also use a lot of Thinking Maps: Write From The Beginning in our district and have seen huge differences in our writing scores!  Be sure to check back for more TM freebies :)

5.  We both LOVE dogs!

6.  We are both obsessed with Pinterest!  If you haven't been there, WATCH OUT...hehe :)

7.  We both LOVE being teachers and are always pushing ourselves to learn and grow.  I know, cheesy, but true :)

Alrighty Then... We've Got A Blog!

So, I've summoned up some Jim Carrey attitude, got one of my BFFs on board, and well...started writing a teaching blog :)  If you know me, you know I always have SOMETHING to say about school or some idea I'm trying to implement on my second graders while trying to make it so fun and exciting they hardly notice :)  I wanted to start this blog because I would get to work with the incredibly techie and brilliant Beth Wright and I thought it could turn into a great place for amazing teachers to share their ideas and passion about the teaching profession!

Now, a little about me... I've wanted to be a teacher since I was five years old and would boss around my younger brother and sister to make sure they could "follow directions" :)  I married my best friend, Brian, five years ago and we have two "dog babies"; Mikka and Chloe.  This is my 6th year teaching and I've been able to teach kindergarten, first, second, and spend a wonderful year as a Literacy Coach.  I know this may sound totally cheesy, but I LOVE my job!  I'm so excited every day to get up and start a new day with my class and watch the lightbulbs go on over their heads :)  Now some random stuff, besides teaching and reading teaching blogs, I love to read (The Hunger Games is my current fave), stalk Pinterest, scrapbook, and spend time with my big Italian family that I adore :)
